Tourism to Thang Long Royal Citadel to open in mid-September August 5, 2010
Head of the Heritage Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, has said that in middle of this September 2010, the Thang Long Royal Citadel will open to tourism. At present, the citadel is still closed for preservation and conservation, Tienphong newspaper reported.
Speaking with the newspaper after the Thang Long Royal Citadel was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, Mr. Hung said that at present, the citadel management board is working with the Vietnam Academy of Archaeology to repair and preserve paths in the citadel, in order to make the citadel open before the capitalfs celebration of 1,000 years.
The Thang Long Royal Citadel was opened earlier, but it is now temporarily closed to focus on study and preservation of artifacts.
Regarding UNESCOfs proposals on the continued excavation, he said that in the year of the 1,000th birthday of the capital, it is not suitable to excavate, and that the exaction may continue in 2011.
The central part of the Thang Long Royal Citadel has an area of 18,395 square meters, including the Hanoi ancient citadel and the archaeological relics at No. 18 Hoang Dieu. International tourism festival to welcome the 1,000 year anniversary of Thang Long ? Hanoi August 5, 2010 The international tourism festival of 2010 to welcome the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long ? Hanoi and the National Tourism Year 2010 will be held on October 2-5th in Bao Son Paradise. This information was released by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The centre of the festival is the international and domestic tourism exhibition showcases.
Among 315 showcases, there will be 50 showcases for nations from 5 continents, 100 showcases for tourism businesses in Hanoi, 115 showcases for Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and tourism businesses from 62 provinces and cities across the country and 50 showcases for sponsoring units.
During the four-day festival, there will be special art and cultural programs, folk games, daily life of old Hanoians and street festivals such as Then singing of Thai ethnic minority and water puppet performance.
The festival will also recreate the daily life of Hanoians at the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century, tents and bamboo camp-beds of candidate for mandarinal examinations in feudal Vietnam and calligraphic performances.
At the festival, the organizing board will also organize tourism destination promotion meetings of Vietnam and continents.
